Our History

Establishment

Shaheed Udham Singh Government College, Matak Majri – Indri, was established by the Government of Haryana with the aim of extending the reach of higher education to rural and underserved areas of the state. Recognizing the educational needs of the youth in and around Matak Majri and Indri, the state government took the initiative to set up a fully government-funded college in this region to offer quality, accessible, and affordable education.

The college was officially inaugurated in 2005 as part of the Haryana government's mission to strengthen higher education infrastructure in rural belts. The foundation stone was laid with a vision to promote academic excellence, social equality, and skill development among students, especially those belonging to economically and educationally backward sections.

Named after Shaheed Udham Singh, the fearless patriot and martyr of India’s freedom struggle, the institution was founded not only as an educational facility but also as a symbol of courage, sacrifice, and national pride. His name continues to inspire the college community to uphold the values of honesty, bravery, and service to the nation.

From its early years with a small number of students and limited courses, the college has grown into a vibrant academic institution affiliated with Kurukshetra University, offering undergraduate programs in Arts, Commerce, and Science streams. The continuous support from the government, committed faculty, and active student participation have played a crucial role in shaping the institution’s academic and cultural profile.

Today, Shaheed Udham Singh Government College stands as a respected center of learning in Karnal district, committed to academic innovation, value-based education, and community development — fulfilling its foundational vision every day.
